On Friday, January 10th, Venus will be putting on its best evening performance of the year, and our Wyoming skies offer the perfect viewing conditions.

Known as "Greatest Eastern Elongation," this special astronomical event means Venus will appear at its highest point above the western horizon during evening hours. Thanks to Casper's elevation and typically clear winter skies, we're perfectly positioned to catch this dazzling sight.

Best Viewing Tips for Casper Families:

  • Time: Look westward at sunset or just after sunset

  • Location: Any spot with a clear view of the western horizon will work

  • What to Look For: Venus will appear as an exceptionally bright, star-like point of light - you can't miss it!
